This time, no new recipe. I decided to share some classic Vietnamese iced coffee with some of the most amazing people in the world, my band friends. And I also made a video detailing the coffee-making process!
It's a new quarter, and that means it's time to kick off my "Ăn Với..." ("Eating With...") series! As promised in my quarterly goals, today I'll be cooking for my friends. I chose to start by making some bánh kẹp lá dứa (coconut pandan waffles) for my club.
As of now, it's only 12:29 AM on a Sunday night and my eyes are already wanting to close. I can do this. I'm on the verge of going nuts for sure. Speaking of nuts, I actually can’t wait to post this blog about xoi dau phong, or peanut sticky rice!
Xôi (pronounced “soy") is a dish that I've had ever since I was a young child. Today, I'll be writing about xôi bắp, sticky rice with hominy.
This week on Finding Pho: more chè! This time I’ll be making chè táo xọn. Honestly, I didn’t know the actual name of this chè for a while, so I literally asked my mom, “Can you show me how to make the chè that looks like snot?” But don’t worry; looks can be deceiving. It actually tastes pretty dang amazing.
Chè. No, not the Marxist revolutionary. Chè cannot be directly translated to English. People call it dessert soup, a beverage, or a pudding, but it's best described as a whole class of desserts rather than specifics. There are different types of chè, and today I'll be sharing one of my favorites: chè khoai môn.
Just a quick post to announce that I'm making a slight modification to my quarterly goals. Instead of cooking for friends and family this quarter, I'm only going to focus on desserts for this quarter. I'll wait until fourth quarter to cook for other so that I can truly have a grasp of cooking and have a broader repertoire of Vietnamese dishes by the time I do that.
I'm currently preparing to cook my first dessert! Til next time :) Gà rô ti is essentially Vietnamese roasted chicken. Ironically, though, my family's version is not roasted at all.
